Today we had a class discussion about populations. You answered a series of true/false questions, then we discussed your answers and reasoning. If you were absent today, answer the questions on slides #1-11 in your notebook, and provide support and reasoning for each of your answers. Show me your work for credit.
OPTIONAL: If you would like to earn back HALF of the points you lost on the test, you can do test corrections. You must follow these directions to earn points:
1. Test corrections must be done neatly on a separate sheet of paper and then stapled to your original test. 2. Explain WHY the answer you chose is incorrect using science principles. (If you say I guessed the answer, you will not receive any credit!) 3. Identify the correct answer 4. Turn in your stapled test corrections/test NO LATER THAN Friday May 4th. If you are absent on that day, send me a picture showing your completed corrections! NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!!! Tomorrow is the test on Chapter 8, which includes DNA replication, protein synthesis (transcription and translation), and mutations. The slides we used in class have been linked in previous blog entries, and if you are struggling with some of the concepts, you can review the readings in the chapter (even though I did not assign them as homework, they do have some useful information)
Helpful Videos DNA Replication (amoeba sisters) DNA transcription and translation (amoeba sisters) Mutations (amoeba sisters) mutations (Bozeman science) Today we talked about mutations. Then you worked on a worksheet to see how various mutations affect the formation of a protein. The practice worksheet is due on Tuesday.
Today we talked about transcription and translation. (slides 27-45 in the powerpoint). If you are confused, you can watch of the videos below to help. Tomorrow we will work through actual examples.
Bozeman Science Transcription and Translation Amoeba sister Crash Course Today we attended a guest lecture on sustainability and ecology.
Today we did a coloring activity to highlight the important aspects of transcription and translation.
Today we simulated DNA replication using paper clips. If you didn't finish answering the reflection questions, please do so for homework.
Today we began talking about the structure of a DNA molecule. You did a coloring activity to help you identify the components of a DNA molecule. Due tomorrow: DNA The Double Helix coloring, and questions #1-9 in the packet.
