Today we learned how to rewrite functions into a form that would allow us to apply L'Hopital's rule. For some problems we use algebraic techniques to get the function into the form we need. For other problems we need to use logarithms. Homework is to complete the right column of problems from yesterday's worksheet. Tomorrow is a work day to practice these techniques.
Today we learned L'Hopital's rule for finding limits of rational functions when direct substitution gives an indeterminate form. Homework is a worksheet, only do the problems in the left column.
Today we worked on another worksheet to review algebraic methods of finding limits.
Today we reviewed different techniques for evaluating limits of functions, including substitution, algebraic manipulation, tables, and graphs. Homework was a worksheet that is due tomorrow. Solutions are available in the chapter 8 folder on GD.
Solutions to the review assignment are posted. The solutions to the group quiz (before spring break) are also on google drive. Today we learned the formula to find the length of a curve. Homework is p. 399 #1-9 odd (skip #7) and 11,12. Keep working on your review problems. We'll go over the bothersome ones in class tomorrow.
Today we began the chapter review assignment. This assignment is due on Thursday (day of the exam). P. 413 #1,2,6,7,8,11,13,17,18, 19, 20, 21, 25. Chapter 7 solutions manual is linked here.
Tomorrow we will learn how to find arclength. The chapter 7 test will be on Thursday. Today we went over some of the more difficult homework problems. May of them required you to use a trig identity to simplify the integral before you could find an antiderivative. Make sure you know the trig identities. It will make your life easier. Really. Homework was a mixed review. You need to decide what method to use to find either area between two curves (integrate w/r/t x or w/r/t y) or to find the volume of a solid (discs or washers). The assignment and answers are attached. (answers are after the assignment.)
Today we practiced some more disc and washer problems. Homework is p. 392 #14.16.21.23.25,27,30,34 due tomorrow. The solutions manual is linked in a previous post.
Here are some videos for discs and washers: Video explanation with example Example 1 video Example 2 video Today we did a short "status check" to see how everyone was progressing with the volume problems. We decided that we needed one more day to practice finding volumes using the disk method. No new homework tonight.
