Today we talked about the conditions for static equilibrium and started working on some problems. Make sure you are working on the webassigns!

Today we worked on webassign problems and didn't get into any new material. Here is the solution to the last problem we started in class (it is the last problem in the 9.1 problem set.).
Today we covered net torque (total torque due to multiple forces), center of mass, and began talking about static equilibrium (see slides 49-59 in the powerpoint). Make sure you are doing the webassigns!
Today we talked about centripetal acceleration (exists whenever something is moving in a circle) and tangential acceleration (only exists when object is speeding up/slowing down). We practiced finding total acceleration for an object moving in a circle and speeding up. We got through slide 32 in your packet (see last week's blog entry for powerpoints). You should begin the new webassign!
Today we practiced finding the linear speed of a particle on a rotating object. There is a new webassign to practice this concept. Class notes were handed out in class today. You can also find the powerpoints under yesterday's post.
Today we started talking about rotational motion. We learned new vocab words and we talked about the equations of kinematics for rotational motion. Homework is on webassign. I will have class notes available for you tomorrow.
Test Corrections are due by Tuesday March 7. You need to analyze what you did wrong in terms of physics so that you don't make the same mistakes again. The retest will be next Wednesday 3/8. YOU MUST HAVE 75% of each webassign assignment complete by midnight on Tuesday to take the retest!!
Test solutions are available here (and in google drive): Multiple Choice answers only Free Response Solutions |
Reminders:
Chapter 2 test retake is Wednesday 10/17. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
