Today we reviewed the various graphs that we use, and what kind of information we can get from each graph as well as how we go from one graph to another. I also handed out a practice test (last year's exam). The multiple choice answers should be in the packet. The solutions to the free response are available in google drive. (If there is a discrepancy between the multiple choice answers you have in your practice test and the answers shown in the solutions on google drive, the solutions on google drive ARE correct.

Today we did a graph matching activity - you had to match a position graph to a velocity graph for objects that were moving at constant velocity and for objects that were speeding up and/or slowing down.
The practice problems we did yesterday are available in google drive. There are some problems that we didn't get to - you can try them to help you study for the test. SOLUTIONS are also available in google drive. The solutions to many of your webassign questions are also available in the "1 Dimensional Kinematics" folder on google drive. Look for the files that have Cutnell in the title. You need to locate the question number in your book (it should be about the same as the last few digits of the webassign id (which starts with CJ). The solutions use the numbers from your book, so your answers will be different. If you get stuck, you can look at the solutions to see one possible approach to solving the problem. Remember, there is more than one way to solve problems. The test has been moved to Monday 10/2.
Today we worked practice problems together. I will post solutions to the practice problems as soon as I have completed them (sorry!). Today we got through the final two examples in yesterday's powerpoint. The problems and their solutions are linked on yesterday's post. For those of you who are interested in a challenge problem, #19 on webassign is tough (the train problem). The solution to the problem is posted here if you get stuck.
Today we worked through some more difficult free fall examples, including 2 object problems. Solutions to the example problems are available in google drive.
Today we talked about free fall. We also worked through the example problems together in class (solutions are available in google drive). There is a new webassign available to practice this concept.
Today we worked in groups to solve kinematics problems. The solutions to the problems we worked in class are available on google drive. All solutions (including solutions to homework checks) are available by clicking the Student Files/Solutions button on the right hand side of the screen.
If you like to read your textbook, we are current covering material in chapter 2 of your book (sections 2.1 thru 2.5). Today we practiced using the kinematics equations. We also did some practice problems involving the relationships between position, velocity, and acceleration graphs. There is a webassign to practice these concepts. You should start working on these problems - try 4 or 5 of them each evening.
Today we derived the kinematics equations from our data that we gathered during the marble lab. We also talked about the relationships between the graphs of position, velocity, and acceleration.
Today we calculated the instantaneous velocity of the marble at a particular time by finding the slope of the line that is tangent to the graph at that time. We then graphed the velocity vs. time for the marble, and got a (mostly) linear fit. We ran out of time before we could use our graphs to derive the 4 kinematics equations.

Reminders:
Chapter 2 test retake is Wednesday 10/17. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
