Today we learned about apparent weight and began talking about friction. We covered static friction, but did not get a chance to talk about kinetic friction. You should begin looking at the new webassign problems.

Today we practiced some gravity problems that were difficult. Then we practiced finding forces for objects on an incline. Homework is a worksheet with 5 problems. The solutions to the worksheet are available in the google drive folder.
Today we talked about the normal force, apparent weight, and frictional forces. There is a webassign for these topics, please work on those problems. The test for this unit will most likely be on Tuesday December 6th. Enjoy your Thanksgiving break!!
Today we talked about mass, weight, and gravity. There is a new webassign for gravity. Please, please spend 30 minutes per day doing webassign problems, and come see me if you are having trouble with the problems!
Today we talked about Newton's 3rd Law (see powerpoint in yesterday's blog post), and practiced identifying action/reaction pairs of forces. There are 2 webassign assignments that you should complete - Intro to Forces and Newton's Laws.
Do not begin the Gravity,Mass,Weight assignment - we have not yet covered that material! You can try it, but if you get confused/frustrated STOP! Last week we started talking about forces, and how force (net force) affects motion. The powerpoints we used (sorry I am behind in posting) are linked below:
Forces, free body diagrams, and Newton's 1st and 2nd laws powerpoints Practice with Newton's 2nd law and intro to Newton's 3rd law This material corresponds to chapter 4 in your book. You should read the book - it is helpful, especially if you are struggling. Don't forget to do the webassign problems as well! Today was a test correction and waffle day. Test corrections are due Monday 11/14. Your corrections need to show me that you understand the problem and what you did wrong. Test corrections are mandatory for everyone (if you want to keep your AP scaled grade, which I assume you do.). The solutions to the exam are given below:

The test retake/makeup is Wednesday 11/16 either before school (be here by 6:30 am) or after school - your choice. No other retake will be offered. Solutions to the review assignment on webassign are available in the google drive folder. The numbers for your webassign assignment may be different from my numbers.
Today we practiced relative motion problems together on whiteboards. The rest of the solutions to yesterday's assignment are in the google drive folder. You also received a review assignment to help prepare for the test next Monday. Solutions to these problems are also available in the google drive folder at the following links:
Projectile problem solutions Relative motion problem solutions (these are written using unit vector notation, which is similar to component form. the number in front of the i is the x-component of the vector, the number in front of the j is the y-component of the vector.) Some of these are very challenging. Try the ones that have a C in front of them. They are from your book. I will also create a webassign review assignment for those that would like to do more problems. |
Reminders:
Chapter 2 test retake is Wednesday 10/17. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
