In addition to the extra credit opportunity posted on 11/20, you can do webassign problems for extra credit. There is a HUGE assignment that is posted and is completely optional. For every 12 points you earn, I will give you 1 extra credit point in the test category. You can earn up to 43 extra credit points. The assignment closes on January 2nd at the beginning of class. quiz tomorrow on Uniform Circular Motion (Chapter 5). Make sure you understand:
centripetal acceleration centripetal force drawing a free body diagram and identifying which force(s) are acting centripetally banked turns satellites in circular motion Don't worry about the super difficult problems on webassign. If you can do them, great. If you are struggling with them, don't worry. I am only looking for basic application of the key ideas above. Solutions to some of the practice problems we worked in class are available in the google drive folder for the chapter.
Centripetal Force Banked Curves Vertical Circular Motion Circular Orbits Today we practiced more banked turn problems. Tomorrow you have a lab, which will be due Wednesday before winter break.
Remember that your Uniform Circular Motion test is next Wednesday 12/20. The retest for the Forces chapter is Tuesday 12/19. All Unit 3 webassigns must be completed to 75%, and test corrections must be completed to be eligible for the retest. Today we looked at what happens when an object is moving in a vertical circle, and also began talking about banked turns. We will continue working on banked turns tomorrow.
Today we learned about centripetal force. We practiced drawing FBD's and identifying which force(s) were acting centripetally. There is a new webassign that you should begin working on!
Today we began talking about uniform circular motion (an object moving in a circle at constant speed). We learned how to find the speed of the object, and how to find its centripetal acceleration. Please try the webassign problems tonight.
This chapter will be completed before the start of winter break - things will move very quickly so please make an effort to do problems each night so you don't fall behind. Test corrections are due on Wednesday December 20th (BEFORE winter break!). Make sure your corrections address the following:
- why was your original answer incorrect IN TERMS OF PHYSICS (do not say " i guessed" or "i didn't know") - SHOW ME how to find the correct answer if it is a calculation problem. Otherwise explain IN TERMS OF PHYSICS what the correct answer is. - for free response problems, compare your answer to my rubric and identify what you were missing and/or where you made mistakes AGAIN IN TERMS OF PHYSICS. Test A/C SOLUTIONS Test B/D SOLUTIONS MC Answers You must hand in test corrections to keep your scaled score. RETEST will be on Tuesday or Wednesday 12/19 or 12/20. Make sure all Unit 3 webassignments are completed to 75% or better! Today we went through several problems to review for tomorrow's test. The solutions to the review problems are in the google drive folder. You can also find solutions to many of the webassign problems (although you will have to find them by the page number in your book).
