Today we introduced the concept of relative velocity. We were able to find the velocity of one object relative to another moving object. Homework is p.84 #52-56, and p. 80 #1,3,4,,6,9,14,15,16. Solutions to 52 and 53 are available in the google drive folder. I will post the remaining solution later.

Yesterday we continued to practice solving projectile motion problems. The solutions to the class problems are available here.
Solutions to some of the webassign problems are available here Projectiles #2: Problem 3 is similar to #23 and Problem 4 is the same as #25 in this assignment. Projectiles: Problem 3 is the same as #16 and Problem 4 is the same as #14 in these solutions. Projectiles #2: Problem 1 is very similar to #29 which has a video solution available here. Today we began working on a projectile motion lab. You need to design a procedure to determine the muzzle velocity of the marble launcher. Tomorrow you have a homework check on projectile motion problems. The corrections for the make-up exam/retake for Unit 1 are due by Friday. The solutions to the exam are available in google drive. Make sure that your test corrections explain, in physics terms, why your answer was wrong.
Today we worked together on whiteboards to solve 2 dimensional kinematics problems. The solutions to the problems we did in class are available on google drive. Homework is 4 problems on webassign.
Today we began solving projectile motion problems. Remember to draw a picture, and make a list of all the knowns in the x-direction, and a second list of all the knowns in the y-direction. Then decide which direction has enough information to begin solving the problem. You may have to solve for time using the y-direction, and then use the time in the x-direction to find the range.
Today we began our discussion of 2 dimensional kinematics. We looked at displacement, average velocity, instantaneous velocity, average acceleration, instantaneous acceleration, and finding components of these different vectors. Homework is on webassign. Tomorrow you have a homework check on vectors.
If you were absent on Wednesday, please complete the Projectile Motion Investigation Parts 1 and 2 for tomorrow. You should be using the same applet for both Parts. Ignore the url that is given in the directions for part 2. The correct url is given in the Part 1 directions.
Today we began an online lab to investigate projectile motion. Make sure you have Part 1 and Part 2 for the lab (there was a copying snafu). We will finish the lab in class tomorrow. If you are absent tomorrow (due to PSAT testing or a field trip), please finish the lab at home - it is due on Thursday.
Today we practiced finding components of vectors, and adding vectors graphically and algebraically. You should work on the webassign problem set, and also look at the worksheet we did last week to fix any errors you had on it. Solutions are available in the google drive folder. It is very important that you understand how to add vectors as we will be using the skill all year long.
Today we practiced solving one dimensional kinematics problems in small groups. The group that was able to correctly solve the problem first earned a physics buck for their efforts. Monday we will continue working on vectors.
The solutions to the first exam are available in the google drive folder. |
Reminders:
Chapter 2 test retake is Wednesday 10/17. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
