Today we finished defining terms: scalar, vector, position, displacement, distance, speed, velocity and began solving uniform motion problems. I passed out some practice problems on a worksheet. Make sure you take a look at #5-16. Do as many of them as you need to make sure you understand the concepts (includes position vs time graphs, velocity vs. time graphs, displacement, distance, speed, velocity problems. Solutions to #5-16 are available here if you want to check your work.
Today we reviewed position vs. time and velocity vs. time graphs, how they relate the each other, and several definitions (see yesterday's PPT). We practiced interpreting graphs, and going from a description to a graph.
Today we discussed the buggy lab. We discussed the meaning of the slope and y-intercept of our position vs. time graphs. We also introduced the terms: scalar, vector, displacement, velocity, and began looking at velocity vs. time graphs. And, we derived our first kinematics equation.
Thursday we went through the syllabus. Please make sure you read it and explain to your parents how you plan to be successful in AP Physics. Once you have read it, please complete this form to indicate that you have read and understood the class policies. This is due by 9/11.
Then we talked about how we describe motion, and began gathering data for the buggy lab. Please graph your data for both buggies (you can graph both buggies on the same axes) and be ready to discuss on Thursday. The first week of class was a bit crazy because the schedule was different each day. We introduced ourselves, and did a quick lab to measure our reaction time, and also talked about error and uncertainty. On Tuesday we begin our study of physics...
