Today we discussed the buggy lab. We discussed the meaning of the slope and y-intercept of our position vs. time graphs. We also introduced the terms: scalar, vector, displacement, velocity, and began looking at velocity vs. time graphs. And, we derived our first kinematics equation.

Thursday we went through the syllabus. Please make sure you read it and explain to your parents how you plan to be successful in AP Physics. Once you have read it, please complete this form to indicate that you have read and understood the class policies. This is due by 9/11.
Then we talked about how we describe motion, and began gathering data for the buggy lab. Please graph your data for both buggies (you can graph both buggies on the same axes) and be ready to discuss on Thursday. The first week of class was a bit crazy because the schedule was different each day. We introduced ourselves, and did a quick lab to measure our reaction time, and also talked about error and uncertainty. On Tuesday we begin our study of physics...
Welcome to AP Physics 1! Your summer assignment is to get outside and explore the world around you. Run, jump, hike, bike, hit a tennis ball, etc. I'm looking forward to meeting you at the end of August!
Good luck on your AP exam tomorrow. ! Make sure you get plenty of sleep tonight, and do your best tomorrow!
Pick your 3 or 4 weakest topics, and focus on reviewing 1 or 2 of them each day this weekend (one topic on Friday, one on Saturday, one on Sunday...). You can find good review videos on A Plus Physics, or on Flipping Physics on youtube. Review your formula sheet to see which formulas are on there, and which you need to know by heart. You can also review the practice tests we took. They are linked below. DO NOT PRINT OUT, COPY, or DISTRIBUTE these test electronically. I have put them there to help you review, but they need to stay secure. If anyone violates this policy I will have to take them down and you won't have this resource to use!!
2015 MC (Test we took in class on Thursday) 2015 MC Answers 2015 FRQs (we did not take this portion of the test, but this would be good practice) 2015 FRQ scoring guide 2017 MC (Practice test from Saturday/Sunday test session) 2017 MC Answers 2017 FRQs (Sat/Sun test session) 2017 FRQ Scoring Guide Also, I have found some errors in the review packet. The new packet has been uploaded and linked to the original post. The errors are summarized on the first page. Thursday and Friday will be the last test of the year! Thursday you will have the multiple choice portion of your test, and Friday will be the free response section. All topics are fair game, although the FRQ's will be weighted towards circuits.
Today we talked about how to combine resistors in series, and resistors in parallel into a single equivalent resistance. Tomorrow we will follow up with some practice problems, and looking at some demo circuits. The solutions to yesterday's homework packet are posted below:
page 1 page 2 page 3 page 4 SOlutions to today's homework packet (circuitsB - Kirchoff's rules pages) page 1 page 2 AP Practice Problem Scoring Guides: 2017 Scoring GUide 2016 Scoring Guide 2015 Scoring Guide We are almost through the circuits material. We just need to finish up with Kirchoff's rules and equivalent resistance tomorrow. Please try the first and last problem in the packet I gave you today. You likely will not be able to do the middle problems as we haven't talked about equivalent resistance. We're almost to the finish line! Keep reviewing and practicing.
For those of you that took the AP Physics 1 Practice Exam this weekend, the multiple choice answers and the scoring guide for the free response questions are in the review folder on google drive. You may review your test in the classroom (the tests cannot leave my room, nor can you take pictures of your test - Sorry, Collegeboard rules!). Hopefully your test answers will give you an idea of the areas you should focus your review on.
The solutions to the review packet are also available in the review folder. (Note: Nick found a mistake on #8 in the rotational motion section and it has been updated in the linked doc) Let me know if you find anything you don't agree with - I did them quickly and might have made a mistake. |
Reminders:
Chapter 2 test retake is Wednesday 10/17. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
