Today we began talking about finding the x and y components of vectors, and adding vectors graphically using the tip-to-tail method. We will continue our discussion on Monday.

We are beginning our study of motion in 2 dimensions. In order to understand 2 dimensional motion, we need to understand vectors and vector math. So we are going over the math concepts that will be required this unit and beyond. Today we talked about right triangle trigonometry. For some of you this is a review; for others this is brand new. If you already "get" these concepts, please be patient and help those classmates for whom this is a new concept. Homework is page 23 #12, 14, 16, 18, 20. Lecture notes and homework solutions have been added to the folder "Vectors" under the Solutions/Class Notes button. Make sure you are logged in to your SVSD google drive account, otherwise you won't be able to view the folder.
Today we reviewed for the 1dimensional motion test. You worked in groups on a review assignment. The group that got the most problems completed correctly by the end of the period won physics bucks. I will post solutions to the review assignment in the "solutions/class notes" tab (button on the right hand side of the pc screen). If you are accessing the website from a mobile phone, scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the button.
Your chapter 2 test (one dimensional motion) will be on Tuesday 10/13. For the exam, you are allowed a half sheet of handwritten notes (both sides), or a single sheet single side of handwritten notes. You will hand in your notes with your exam. I will not provide equations for the exam, so you either need to put them on your cheat sheet, or memorize them. Homework solutions and class notes (powerpoints) will be posted in google drive. You can access everything using the button on the right. Google drive is having a problem at the moment, so I can't update right now. Look for updates later in the weekend. You will need to be logged on to your SVSD google drive to access these resources.
Monday we will have a team review challenge. The winning team will earn physics bucks! Be prepared!! Today we reviewed the two sets of free fall problems that you have been working on and made sure everyone knows how to solve them. I passed out the study guide for the first test, which will be next Tuesday (10/13).
Today we finished up the 1dimensional kinematics unit. We talked a little bit about relative velocity, and finished up with some more free fall problems. Homework is p. 55 #49-53.
Today we practiced some more free fall problems. If you are still struggling with this concept, please let me know so that we can try these problems together! Today's homework is p. 55 #43, 44, 45, 46, 48. Solutions are available here. The solutions to last Friday's worksheet (McComb's throwing up and falling down) are available here.
Here are the solutions to the two object problems. P. 54 #29, 30, 33,34,35.
Today we had a group quiz on one dimensional motion concepts. The free fall problems are due Monday - enjoy your weekend!
