Special thanks to Megan Wachtendonk for coming in and telling us about her studies at UW and her research work in a physics lab!
Enjoy your winter break! We will be looking at the acceleration vs. force, and acceleration vs. mass graphs that you made when we return from the break, so don't lose them!

Today you gathered one set of data to determine how net force affects acceleration, and then you began gathering another set of data to determine how mass affects acceleration. Tomorrow you will finish gathering data, and you will graph your data to see the relationships.
On Monday we began talking about Newton's second law. Homework was p. 126 #1-9.
On Tuesday we began a lab to investigate how mass and force affect acceleration. Tuesday you worked on familiarizing yourself with the equipment and checking some prelab predictions. On Wednesday you will actually design the experiment and gather data. Today we reviewed several types of forces, and Newton's first law. We then updated our free body diagrams to make sure they showed balanced forces for an object in equilibrium, and a net force for an object that was accelerating. Homework is to update any FBD's in your packet that are not correct. We will correct the packet on Monday.
Today we used the force tables to practice finding the vector sum of 3 forces. No homework tonight.
Today we talked about different kinds of forces, and learned how to draw free body diagrams, and calculate the net force for simple situations. Homework was a free body diagram worksheet.
Sorry, I dropped the ball yesterday and forgot to post the solutions to the group quiz. Hopefully you can review them this morning before class if you were absent yesterday. Remember, you can use a half sheet of handwritten notes/formulas/etc. for the exam.
Today we had a group quiz that served as the review assignment for the chapter. We will go over the answers tomorrow. Remember, the test is on Thursday. You are allowed to have a single sided sheet of hand written notes for the exam.
