Today we worked on whiteboards to solve friction problems. The problems that we worked on and their solutions can be found here..

If you are struggling with some of the content in this chapter, here are some helpful videos that you can watch to review specific concepts:
Twu Physics has helpful videos by topic. Videos 1 - 18 apply to the chapter we are working on (forces, Newton's laws, friction, inclines, pulleys, interacting objects). Flipping Physics also has helpful videos: Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation and a second video here Forces on an incline Apparent Weight (from A Plus Physics) Friction Intro Coefficient of Friction Friction on an incline Understanding the force of friction equation Friction problems Dynamics Review Due to the fact that students are traveling this week, we will do the 2 Dimensional Motion RETEST as an online webassign test. I will post the test tomorrow and you will have 1 week in which to complete it. You may work with friends, but please don't google answers! You must hand in test corrections for your original test to qualify for the retest!!
In order to qualify for the retest, each webassign assignment for the chapter must be completed to at least 75%. The assignments are: Projectile Motion #1 Relative Motion Trig Review Vector Algebra Vectors Uniform Circular Motion Non-Uniform Circular Motion NOTE that these assignments close at midnight on 11/21. Go to the Spaceneedle (or any other tall building with an express elevator).
Using a scale, determine the acceleration of the elevator at the bottom and the top for a trip up the tower. You must have a picture of you in the elevator on the scale (with your group in it as well) Show all assumptions/work/calculations (each person must hand in individual work!) Tallest building gets 1 extra point Worth 10 points in whatever category you choose Due by January 12, 2018 (no late submissions!) Today we talked about Normal Force and Apparent Weight. There are webassign problems that you should do to practice these concepts. There is a extra credit assignment (optional) at the end of the Apparent Weight slides. The assignment is due NO LATER THAN January 12th.
Today we learned Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation and practiced applying it to different situations.
Today we discussed Newton's 2nd Law and solved several problems. There is a new webassign that you should try for practice.
Today we learned how to draw a free body diagram to show all of the forces acting on an object. Homework was a packet to practice drawing FBDs.
Tomorrow is your chapter 4 test. Major topics include adding vectors, 2 dimensional kinematics, projectile motion, relative motion, uniform circular motion, non-uniform circular motion. The last page of the chapter has a great summary of all the important concepts and formulas for the chapter.
The problems we did in class are in the google drive folder for the chapter. The solutions are included in the file. The FRQ's from last year's exam and their solutions are also in the google drive folder. The solutions to the homework check are also in the folder. |
REMINDERs:Chapter 2 test retake is Monday 10/15. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
Resources:Review videos - excellent videos covering all AP Physics C content.
