Today we talked about slopes and derivatives. We learned some basic rules for taking derivatives of polynomial functions, and practiced finding velocity and acceleration from a position function. Keep working on the mastering physics assignments. The worksheet that I passed out is due tomorrow for 5 homeworkcheck points. The solutions are available here. We did not get through the entire lecture, so answer the questions as best you can!

Today we practiced some more free fall problems (solutions available here - note that we did the problems in a different order in class). Please, please, please Read your book (chapter 2 - either online etext or the paper copy) AND do some homework problems (masteringphysics.com)
Today we talked about free fall, and we practiced solving some problems together.
PLEASE make sure you are working on the homework (masteringphysics.com). Also, read the online textbook - we are in chapter 2. The book is really good and will help you if you are struggling!! Today we registered our Mastering Physics accounts. You can now begin your online homework! We also completed a lab where you set up a ramp and a smartcart so that the smartcart moved to match the given graph.
Today we learned how to use motion diagrams, and also looked at position, velocity, and acceleration graphs. We worked through some graph examples, and began to look at practice problems as well (Solutions to the practice problems available here). Keep working on the homework - I finally have the access codes for MasteringPhysics, so we will set up your accounts during the block period.
Today we finished deriving the kinematics equations, and began using them to solve problems (slides are at the end of yesterday's PPT). Good practice problems include p. 64 #5-7 and p. 65 #6-14, 26, 45-47. Solutions are available in google drive.
Today we looked at our position vs. time graph for the marble lab and discussed the concepts of average velocity and instantaneous velocity. We talked about position, velocity, and acceleration graphs, and began to derive the kinematics equations.
Drawing Tangent Lines video (Youtube) Today you gathered data for a marble rolling down an incline. For Thursday you should have a sketch of your experimental setup, data tables, and a beautiful position vs. time graph. **IMPORTANT** For your graph, draw the x-axis along the LONG side of the paper and put TIME on the x-axis. Make your graphs BIG. Like, use the whole page. Really.
Today we finished defining terms: scalar, vector, position, displacement, distance, speed, velocity and began solving uniform motion problems. I passed out some practice problems on a worksheet. Make sure you take a look at #5-16. Do as many of them as you need to make sure you understand the concepts (includes position vs time graphs, velocity vs. time graphs, displacement, distance, speed, velocity problems. Solutions to #5-16 are available here if you want to check your work.
Today we reviewed position vs. time and velocity vs. time graphs, how they relate the each other, and several definitions (see yesterday's PPT). We practiced interpreting graphs, and going from a description to a graph.

REMINDERs:Chapter 2 test retake is Monday 10/15. You can take the retest either before school or after school, but you must complete all of the Chapter 2 homework (75% completion on each assignment) to be eligible for a retake!
Resources:Review videos - excellent videos covering all AP Physics C content.
